YOU’RE NOT IMPORTANT

“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them that despitefully use you. And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.”

Luke 6: 27 – 31

King James Version

Did anyone ever tell you when you were in school that you were stupid? I was told that and it made me feel even worse about myself. Has someone told you when you were sharing something from your heart “That’s not important”. It may not be important to them, but it’s important to you. A pastor’s wife once said at a ladies meeting “I used to think that a broken leg wasn’t a big deal until it was my husband’s leg that was broken”.

We are conditioned to think that we are not of value and that we don’t have anything worthwhile to contribute. Also, when we’re at the grocery store and someone is impatient because we are ahead of them in the line, it makes us feel like we’re not important and that our time isn’t valuable. Too often, we are guilty of doing that to others who are ahead of us in line.

What about when we’re driving and we get impatient and honk the horn because they aren’t going as fast as we think they should, the message we are giving them is “You’re not as important as I am and my time is more valuable than your time.” We need to treat others as we want to be treated.

The one we hurt the most is Jesus. When we don’t do what He tells us to do, then we are telling Him that He doesn’t know what He’s talking about and our way is the best way. We are saying that we are wiser than the Saviour of the world. When we don’t give Him our time, talents and all that we have, we are telling Him that He is not important. How it must break the heart of Jesus to be treated like we treat Him. Let’s make a special effort to be patient and kind to one another, and especially to Jesus.
